Thinking Human Change

Why You’re So Bloody Tired All the Time.

Let me clear about the kind of tired I’m talking about.

Not “I stayed up too late” tired.
Not “I could do with a nap” tired.

I mean the bone-deep, foggy, wired-but-empty exhaustion where:

  • You can’t think straight

  • You can’t get out of bed

  • You can’t sleep even though you’re shattered

If that’s you, here’s the good news first:
You’re not lazy or flawed. And no – more rest won’t fix this.

Because this isn’t a sleep problem.
It’s an energy leak problem.

Your Nervous System Is On Fire (And It Never Switches Off)

Every time you feel an emotion – fear, guilt, doubt, sadness, anxiety – your nervous system activates.

That happens when:

  • Someone says something that hits an old nerve

  • You scroll past something that sparks fear or comparison

  • A “what if?” pops into your head

  • You anticipate a conversation, decision, or possible failure

Sometimes it’s dramatic, but usually it’s tiny.

The thing is, your body doesn’t care. A micro-trigger still gets treated like actual danger.

And if you’re prone to rumination (hello, anxiety), you’re not just being triggered once – you’re re-triggering yourself every time you replay the thought.

So your system fires.
Then fires again.
Then again.

No reset. No recovery.

That costs a huge amount of energy.

Your Mind Isn’t Resting – It’s Running Threat Assessments

While your nervous system is flaring like a faulty alarm, your mind is working overtime trying to manage it all.

Before you say anything, do anything, or decide anything, your brain runs a scan:

  • Will this lead to rejection?

  • What if I fail?

  • Will this trigger guilt?

  • What if I mess this up?

  • Will they get offended?

  • Am I allowed to want this?

Every action is checked against your personal fears and doubts archive.

So your brain isn’t just thinking.

It’s firefighting. It’s scanning. It’s checking.

Every decision.
Every interaction.
Every task.

This often looks like procrastination, but it’s not. It just takes a while to check every possible decision and action. Especially when your subconscious finds plenty of ‘good reasons’ not to act.

And when you finally act?

Your nervous system flares again – because action means exposure. Risk. The unknown. Uncertainty.

This is emotional burnout.

It’s everywhere, and almost nobody recognises it for what it is.

Why Sleeping More Doesn’t Help

This is where people get confused. They assume exhaustion = lack of rest.

But when your system is in survival mode, you actually need energy to sleep well.

All day, you’re burning fuel managing internal threats. So by the time night time rolls around, the tank is empty.

So you lie there wired.
Or you wake at 3am.
Or you sleep but never feel restored.

Your nervous system never fully powers down. It never gets the chance to actually recover.

Round and round you go.

“Nervous System Regulation” Isn’t the Goal – It’s the Outcome

There’s a lot of talk right now about regulating your nervous system.

Breathwork.
Meditation.
Cold plunges.
Long walks.

They can help – temporarily. But they don’t address the real issue: what’s setting your system off in the first place.

If you’re constantly soothing your nervous system, you’re always one step behind the trigger.

It’s like driving with your foot flat on the accelerator and trying to calm the noise by playing soft music.

The engine is still screaming.

What you really need to do is to take your foot off the gas.

What Actually Works

This is where my work comes in.

Instead of managing symptoms, we remove the internal conflicts that are keeping your system on high alert.

The fears.
The doubts.
The emotional contradictions.
The quiet “background noise” running your life.

Think of it like juggling 40 balls at once.

No wonder you’re exhausted.
No wonder you’re dropping things.
No wonder you can’t move forward.

We don’t ask you to juggle better.

We just take the balls away – one by one.

Until:

  • Your mind stops scanning for danger

  • Your nervous system stops flaring

  • You have actual capacity again

That’s when calm shows up naturally.

Not because you’re maintaining it, but because there’s nothing left to set off the alarm.

If You’re This Tired, Anxiety Is Probably Involved

This level of exhaustion rarely exists on its own.

If this article felt uncomfortably familiar, anxiety is almost certainly part of the picture – even if you don’t identify as “an anxious person”.

I’ve laid out the emotional roots of anxiety (and how to clear them) in my book Clear Your Anxiety. For Good.

And for those ready to go deeper, my Anxiety Healing System walks you through the process step by step.

Start where you want.

But know this:

You’re not meant to feel this tired all the time. And you don’t have to manage this forever.

Sometimes the fix isn’t rest. It’s removing what’s quietly draining you.
